βYour vision will become clear only when you can look down into your own heart.β Carl Jung
As a child growing up in Victoria, BC, I remember the love of making art and experiencing my beautiful surroundings. As a teenager, all I wanted to do was become an artist, and attend art school, which I eventually did at the Alberta University of the Arts. Art to me is a process of growth, very much like living, using daily challenges as a release onto canvas. Drawing is the root of all my work, but I work a lot with acrylic paints. Since I was not allowed to paint the way I wanted to in art school, I painted in the drawing program. I see the old glimmer of rebellion using spray paint at times, but also paint markers. I use calming music to create pictures full of movement and life and people say that rhythm shows in my work. I like using brushes in unconventional ways to create expressive marks. Colour to me speaks in forms that come out in the canvas. Very much like a process of dreaming, my work often taps into deeper meaning and symbols.
